Spotlight on Black History

"A.L. Lewis: Visionary of American Beach"In the 1930s, Abraham Lincoln Lewis, Florida's first Black millionaire and President of the Afro-American Life Insurance Company, saw the need for African Americans to have a safe and beautiful beach to call their own. His vision led to the development of American Beach on Amelia Island, a haven during segregation that has remained a symbol of pride, community, and resilience. His legacy lives on through every tour we give and every story we share.

Throughout the year, American Beach Property Owners and Association Members have organized a variety of meaningful events in honor of this historic milestone.
